Executive Team

Michael Barrett

CEO, Co-founder and Board Member

Michael Barrett has been a longtime leader in providing leading-edge website security for major organizations. Before founding Stealth Security, he was the first president of the FIDO Alliance, an open standards organization focused on authentication. He also ran the Liberty Alliance, the open standards organization that created the first identity federation protocol, SAML 2.0, which is still widely used. Michael was PayPal’s first Chief Information Security Officer and held that role for seven years. He also served as Vice President of Security and Utility Strategy at American Express, where he helped define the company’s information security program and Internet technology strategy. Michael was twice selected one of the “50 Most Powerful People in Networking’ by Network World magazine and was named ‘Information Security Executive of the year’ in 2010. He earned a BSc degree In Computer Science from Brighton University in the U.K.

Ameya Talwalkar

VP Engineering and Co-founder

Over the last 10 years, Ameya Talwalkar has built strong engineering teams specializing in enterprise and consumer security in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Madrid, Pune, and Chengdu. Before co-founding Stealth Security, he was Director of Engineering at Symantec. He was responsible for its anti-malware software stack that leverages network Intrusion prevention and behavior and reputation technologies, and anti-virus engines. Under his leadership, Symantec developed an advanced version of network intrusion prevention technology that blocks more than two billion threats a year. Prior to Symantec, Ameya worked in various engineering roles at Valicert, focused on PKI-based security solutions for finance and government. He led the first commercial implementation of RFC 5055 and contributed to its progress at IETF. Ameya holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mumbai’s Sardar Patel College of Engineering (SPCE).

Shreyans Mehta

CTO and Co-founder

Shreyans Mehta is an innovator in network security and holds several patents in the field. Before co-founding Stealth Security, he was Architect and Technical Director at Symantec, where he led the development of one of the most advanced network security platforms and intrusion prevention technologies based on real-time packet inspection and cloud-based big data analytics. It’s responsible for detecting more than half of the billions of threats that Symantec identifies every year.At Symantec, Shreyans started the Safeweb initiative for marking malicious sites in search results and played a key role in making it a successful standalone product. In partnership with VMware, he developed one of the first agentless IPS engines that transparently protect virtual machines. Before that, he was a lead engineer at VPN Dynamics, a VPN/firewall startup. Shreyans has a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.

Farzad Tari

VP Business Development

Farzad brings more than 20 years of accomplishment in business development for technology companies. Before joining Stealth, he was Vice President of Business Development at Prevoty, responsible for all partnership initiatives. At Check Point Software, he was the founding member of the OPSEC program with more than 300+ security partners. He also established several strategic relationships with companies including Nokia, Nortel, IBM, CipherTrust (acquired by Secure Computing, now part of McAfee), and Swan Labs (acquired by F5).At Cisco, Farzad launched the Cisco Developer Network partner program for security and mobility sectors with over 100 partners. He also drove two acquisitions and established strategic partnerships with global SIs such as NEC. And at Imperva, he helped lead the company to its IPO, founded its technology eco-system program, and established partnerships with FireEye, Cisco, EMC/RSA, and Amazon. Farzad has a BSEE and MSEE from the University of Kansas.

Rod Beckstrom

Co-founder and Chairman of the Board

Rod Beckstrom is a well-known cybersecurity authority, Internet leader, and expert on organizational leadership. He is the former President and CEO of ICANN; the founding Director of the U.S. National Cybersecurity Center; and co-author of the best-selling book “The Starfish and the Spider: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations.” He is an international media commentator and public speaker.

While a grad student at Stanford, Rod created CAT•S Software, a public risk management company, then grew it into a global enterprise, took it public on the NASDAQ, and sold it. He’s gone on to help found many high-tech ventures, including Mergent Systems, a database company that was sold for $200 million within a year of its creation; Privada (backed by American Express and First Data); and eMotion (acquired by Kodak). He’s also a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Council on Future of Government. Rod holds a BA and MBA from Stanford, and was a Fulbright scholar.

John DeSantis

Board Member

John De Santis is CEO of HyTrust, a leading virtualization security company, and has held leadership positions in several top corporations. Before HyTrust, he was VP of Cloud Services for VMware. He came to VMware when it acquired TriCipher, a software security infrastructure company where John was Chairman and CEO. Under his guidance, TriCipher became the leading innovator in cloud-based identity services for web application and SaaS access management.  

Prior to TriCipher, John was CEO of Sygate Technologies, an enterprise security software company. Before that, he served as SVP for Network Computing Devices (a leading thin client manufacturer), and Vice President, European Operations, for Cincinnati Bell Information Systems (now Convergys Corporation). At 28, he co-founded a startup that built the first commercial application of optical channel networking for IBM mainframes.

John is an advisor to several early-stage startups and serves on the boards of Trace Security and NoHold, as well as Stealth Security. He holds a BA in philosophy from Fairfield University.
